The 72 names of God are extracted from three verses in the Bible that describe the passage throught the lake of reeds (often falsely translated as the "red sea"), each of which verse contains 72 letters (consonants).  The first verse is written right to left, the second verse left to right, and the third verse again right to left.  Reading the consonants from above to below, you end up with 72 groups of three consonants each, the first being VHV, the second one SIT, etc.  This way 72 names with three consonants each are extracted, and each of them gets the ending "iah" or "el," both meaning "God."

Therefore, the first "name of god" is Vehuiah, followed by Sitael, etc.

Franz Bardon assings these 72 names to the "Sphere of Mercury" and so do others.  Other groups of 72 names are existing, most of them "channeled," hence differing from each other.
